Treading close behind the tiger: delicate conduct in powerful company.
The lake beneath heaven: the light stepping carefully behind the strong. Treading concerns conduct in the presence of power — the old image is walking on the tiger’s tail without being bitten. The counsel is courteous precision: know the protocol, keep your tone pleasant and your ground firm, and advance through correctness rather than boldness. Good manners here are not decoration; they are the entire technology of safe passage.
