The Well
The well beneath the changing town: the permanent source that serves whoever draws.
Towns are moved and rebuilt; the well stays where the water is. This hexagram concerns the permanent source beneath changing circumstances — skill, character, tradition — from which everyone may draw and which no one exhausts. Its counsel is maintenance and completion: keep your well cleaned and lined, and when drawing, draw the bucket all the way up. A cracked rope at the last foot loses everything. Tend the source; finish the draw.
