Hexagram Forty-Nine
革
Revolution
Fire within the lake: the moulting season, when a form is genuinely outgrown.
Fire and water contend in one place — the tension that precedes the moult. Revolution concerns legitimate transformation: not novelty for its own sake, but the shedding of a form that verifiably no longer fits, as animals shed in season. Its counsel is timing and credibility — change on the right day, announce it clearly, and let results win belief. Premature revolution is mere disturbance; ripe revolution is relief, recognised by everyone the moment it lands.

A structural change is due: time it deliberately, communicate it clearly, and let early results carry the argument.
