Hexagram Fifty-Six
旅
The Wanderer
Fire on the mountain, moving on: the traveller’s art of light and careful presence.
Grass fires cross the mountain and do not stay — the image of the sojourner. The Wanderer concerns seasons of transit: new markets, new cities, positions held without deep roots. Its counsel is the traveller’s discipline — carry little, behave impeccably, pay properly, keep to inns worth trusting, and do not entangle in local quarrels. Strangers prosper by being reliably courteous and lightly attached. Depth can come later; in transit, conduct is capital.

Operating on unfamiliar ground, stay liquid, courteous and lightly committed until you genuinely know the terrain.
