This page describes the tradition in general. If you would rather read your own eight characters first, a birth date is all it takes.
Takes about a minute. Nothing to pay, now or after.
Wood in the five-element system is not lumber. It is the principle of growth: the shoot pushing through frozen ground, the branch reaching for a gap in the canopy, anything that has direction and has not finished. Its season is spring, its direction is east, its colour is green, and its motion in classical descriptions is upward and outward.
In the generating cycle, Water feeds Wood and Wood feeds Fire — the tree drinks and then burns. In the controlling cycle, Metal cuts Wood and Wood parts Earth, roots breaking open ground that looked solid. Those four relationships are the whole grammar. Every statement a practitioner makes about Wood in a chart is some combination of them: what is feeding it, what it is feeding, what restrains it, and what it restrains.
The temperament traditionally read into a Wood-heavy chart is initiative, vision and a low tolerance for stagnation. Wood people are described as planners and as starters, generous with energy, quick to see where something could go. The corresponding note is a scattering of effort across too many beginnings, since a shoot does not naturally choose between directions — the classics treat pruning as the productive act for this element rather than as a loss.
When a chart is read as short of Wood, the tradition answers in a fixed vocabulary rather than with a single instruction. Direction: east, and rooms that face it. Colour: green through teal. Season and timing: spring, and the early part of any cycle. Habit: things that grow slowly and visibly — plants, a practice, a skill with a beginner's stage. Material: green stone, aventurine in particular, whose glitter comes from mica caught in the quartz rather than from polish. We sell aventurine as jewelry and describe it that way — its material, its cut, and what the tradition has said about the colour green. Nothing about an object changes what happens to a person, and we do not suggest otherwise.
Wood also has a specific role in reading wealth. In BaZi the wealth element of any chart is the element the Day Master controls — so for a Metal Day Master, Wood is the wealth element, and green is the colour a practitioner would name. For a Wood Day Master it is the other way round: Wood controls Earth, so Earth and its yellows are what get named. This is the rule that connects a birth chart to a colour and a material without any leap of faith in between, and it is the reason our free reading calculates your Day Master before it says anything else.
One thing worth separating: the Wood in your zodiac sign and the Wood in your Day Master are different claims. Tiger and Rabbit are fixed Wood branches for everybody born in those years. A Wood Day Master is specific to your birth day. And the element that dominates your chart by weight is a third figure again, calculated across all eight characters including the hidden stems. Our reading reports all three separately rather than collapsing them into one answer.
The bracelet
The bracelet for this element
Anything we make is jewelry: an object to wear, and a reminder of an intention you set yourself. We describe its materials, its craft, and what it has meant in Chinese tradition. We do not describe it as something that changes financial outcomes.
The first run is obsidian and pixiu. The other four materials exist as specs, not yet as objects — if your chart points somewhere else, say so on the list and we will make that one next.
